Distance Education Support
The library offers its services to all PCC students, including those that take only online classes. This page serves as a quick guide to services that are useful to know about if you are a distance education student. Refer to the Library homepage for more general information about the library.

Getting Help:
Click on the Ask Us! link, found on the Library homepage and other places throughout the site, to see quickly all the ways you can get help from a professional librarian. The options even include 24/7 online chatting with a librarian!
If you need help using Campus Cruiser or Blackboard, the PCC Distance Learning Division provides an online orientation that includes tutorials on various tasks such as logging in, sending e-mails and much more.
Passwords and Online Resources:
You will need passwords to use the Library's online databases from off campus. Because the Library pays to have access to these resources, off-campus access is restricted to students of PCC. There are a few different ways to get the passwords. Keep in mind that some passwords change every semester.
The online resources that require a password for access will have a symbol beside it to help you know which password to use for that database...

Finding and Using Online Resources:
The Online Databases page is your gateway to finding the online resources offered by PCC Library.
We have pages that explain how you can find books and articles.
Our Subject Guides can point you to online resources as well.
A list of frequently used websites can be found in our Favorite Websites page.
To find out how to cite your online articles see Cite Your Sources (MLA).
Remember to contact a librarian if you need more help.
Searching Online Databases:
Searching a library subscription database is NOT like searching Google or any other Internet search engine. You will need to use specific searching techniques for the best results. Read the database search tips and keep them in mind when searching the databases.
Getting Books Mailed To You:
If you are taking only distance education classes and do not come to campus you can have library books mailed to you. The only exceptions would be items that normally do not circulate outside of the library.
You will need a Library account (library card barcode number) in order to have books sent to you. Fill out the online library card application and you should receive an e-mail (within a day or two) with your library card barcode number.
To request PCC Library books be mailed to you, contact Teresa Thompson by e-mail at tthompso@email.pittcc.edu or by telephone at (252) 493-7352.
If PCC does not have the books you need, we can borrow books from other libraries and send them to you.
If you have any questions about borrowing books from other libraries, contact Teresa Thompson by e-mail at tthompso@email.pittcc.edu or by telephone at (252) 493-7352.
