Users should be aware that there are security, privacy, and confidentiality risks when using wireless communications and technology. The Pitt Community College Computer Network Acceptable Use Policy applies to the wireless network.

For more detailed information about how to log on to the PCC wireless network, read the Connect to Wireless [PDF] document provided by the PCC Computer Helpdesk.

- No technical assistance
- NOT a secure network
Saving Your Work
Public workstations in the library have software that will delete anything that has been saved to the computer and will return any changed settings to their original state once the computer has been shut down and re-started. For this reason, it is necessary that you always bring something on which to save your work when using computers in the library. The library does NOT have floppy disks or blank CDs available for purchase.
Acceptable Use
The primary purpose of the computers in the library is for academic use. Should all computer workstations be in use, those who are surfing the Internet, playing games, listening to music, etc. may be asked to give up their computer to a person who needs to complete an assignment or do research.
PCC also has policies regarding the use of the campus network. Be aware that the campus network is closely monitored. If prompted by the campus network administrator, librarians will ask those who are downloading or using any restricted software to turn off or re-start their computer.
Peripherals
Printing
The charge for printing in the library is $.10 per page. All print jobs are automatically set to print single-sided. You will not be able to use your personal paper to print in the library.
PCC Students:
If you are a registered student, you will need to know your PCC student ID number to print in the library, since your printing account number is your student ID number. Based on your PCC fee-payment category, you will be given either a $10.00 printing credit or a $2.50 printing credit on your account each semester. Once your credit allotment has been used up, you will then need to add money to your account by using the Virtual Cash Acceptor machine located on the 1st floor of the library. The machine takes $1, $5, and $10 bills, but does not give change. You do not have to have a student ID card with you to print or add value to your account, as long as you know your student ID number. You can check your current balance at any time by entering your ID number into one of the Print Stations on the 2nd floor, or into the Virtual Cash Acceptor machine on the 1st floor.
PCC Faculty and Staff:
If you are a current PCC employee (full- or part-time), you will need to know your Colleague ID number to print in the library, since your printing account number is your Colleague ID number. You will be given a $10.00 printing credit on your account each semester and will be charged only $.05 per page. Once your credit allotment has been used up, you will then need to add money to your account by using the Virtual Cash Acceptor machine located on the 1st floor of the library. The machine takes $1, $5, and $10 bills, but does not give change. You do not have to have an employee ID card with you to print or add value to your account, as long as you know your Colleague ID number. You can check your current balance at any time by entering your ID number into one of the Print Stations on the 2nd floor, or into the Virtual Cash Acceptor machine on the 1st floor.
Non-PCC Students and Community Patrons:
If you are not a PCC student or PCC faculty/staff member, you will need to purchase a printing card from the Cash Card Dispenser machine located on the 1st floor of the library. The card dispenser will take only a $1 bill. Your card will cost $.50 and will be given to you with $.50 worth of print credit. If you want to add more money to your card, you will need to use the Virtual Cash Acceptor machine that is next to the card dispenser. The Cash Acceptor machine takes $1, $5, and $10 bills, but does not give change. You do not have to have your printing card with you to print or add value, as long as you know the account number that is on your card. Make sure that you write your name on your card and keep it in a safe place, as anyone who finds your card would be able to use it to print. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BUY MORE THAN ONE CARD!
