The Electronics Engineering Technology curriculum prepares individuals to become technicians who design, build, install, test, troubleshoot, repair, and modify developmental and production electronic components, equipment, and systems such as industrial/computer controls, manufacturing systems, communication systems, and power electronic systems. - - - see a list of possible careers
A broad-based core of courses, including basic electronics, semiconductors, analog and digital fundamentals, and microprocessors, ensures the student will develop the skills necessary to perform entry and intermediate-level tasks. Emphasis is placed on developing the student’s ability to analyze and troubleshoot electronic systems.
Pitt Community College offers three emphasis tracks within the Electronics Engineering Technology curriculum. These are General, Systems, and Automation.
The General emphasis would prepare graduates for a broad variety of electronic application jobs as well as provide applicable course for 4-year college requirements. The System emphasis would prepare graduates for electronics maintenance jobs with added skills in industrial systems. The Automation emphasis would prepare graduates for electronics maintenance jobs with added skills in automation, robotics, and PLC systems.
Graduates should qualify for employment as engineering assistants or electronic technicians with job titles such as electronics engineering technician, field service technician, maintenance technician, electronic tester, electronic systems integrator, bench technician, production control technician >>> more.
Students enrolled full-time and making satisfactory progress should complete this program in five semesters. Additional time may be needed to achieve minimum requirements in English, Math and Science.
This program has certificate options in Basic Electronics, Automation Technology, and Computer Technology. Contact the program coordinator or department chair for specific requirements.
