Overview

The Tutorial and Academic Success Center (TASC) staff is excited about helping students to succeed in the core classes offered at Pitt Community College. TASC is a free service for all students registered for traditional, internet, evening, and weekend classes at PCC. Individual and group sessions with academically qualified peer tutors and professional tutors are offered to provide academic support. The service is designed to increase the probability of academic success for the students who use it. Tutoring is not an emergency preparation for exams, nor is it a substitute for regular class attendance. The primary goal of tutoring is to assist students in becoming independent and confident learners.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Tutorial and Academic Success Center is to promote academic success by providing quality tutoring, computer resources, and study skills to maximize the learning experience of Pitt Community College curriculum students.

​Locations and Operating Hours

Primary location for tutoring is in the Leslie Building, Room 146. 
Operating Hours: Fall and Spring Semesters
Monday - Thursday: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Friday                     8:00 am - 3:00 pm

Second location: Academic Skills Lab, Vernon White Building, Room 47.

Normal Lab Hours: Fall and Spring Semesters
Monday-Thursday: 8:00 am - 7:00 pm

Friday: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.

How to access TASC services?

Face to Face Tutoring Services:
Free face to face tutoring is available . Students are encouraged to visit early in the semester for face to face tutoring. After students complete a Request for Services form, an appointment will be scheduled with a tutor.

Most appointments are confirmed in person or by telephone (252-493-7258).

Walk-in Tutoring:

On-line Tutoring Services:
PCC also contracts with Smarthinking online services which enables students to connect with E-structor® Certified tutors anytime from any Internet connection.  The purpose of Smarthinking is to increase student achievement and enhance learning in support of faculty instruction. Smarthinking is available at this time as a free service to PCC students.  Click HERE to log in to Smarthinking.

Computerized Tutoring:
The Academic Skills Lab offers students specialized software which provides individualized supplemental instruction allowing students to work at their own pace. FTE will be earned from the actual student contact hours generated from faculty referrals.

​Courses available for tutorial assistance

Tutorial assistance is offered in most required subjects such as English, math, biology, and accounting.  Students in courses not listed but have math and/or writing questions are welcome to seek TASC assistance.

If the class you desire tutoral assistance is not listed, please stop by the tutoring office in the Leslie Building, Room 137, to see if tutors are available for your class.

Missed Appointment Process

Students are asked to contact TASC by telephone or email 24 hours in advance if they are not able to keep an appointment. Follow-up with a student will be made for missed appointments.
