Message from the President

Welcome to Pitt Community College, a comprehensive community college of the North Carolina Community College System. The past several months have been dedicated to planning the College’s next five years with the leadership of a small team of faculty and staff, with significant input from the trustees, employees, and the community. The Strategic Plan was endorsed by the Board of Trustees in May 2007 and will serve as a guide through 2011 and, along with our mission and vision statement, will be a focus for activity which we will regularly communicate to our stakeholders and accrediting groups.

The College’s enrollments for credit and non credit courses are at an all time high, and national and state data suggests that community colleges will continue to be an attractive choice for undergraduate education and workforce development initiatives. The 2007-2011 Strategic Plan features the following four goals:

  1. Engagement and Access
  2. Active Learning and Student Success
  3. Professional and Organizational Development, and
  4. Financial Resources and Facility Development.

Over the next five years, our employees will demonstrate commitment to learning and success through pursuing the attainments of key objectives related to these goals.

The Strategic Planning Committee collaborated with all campus employees, trustees, and civic groups to elicit dialogue and perspectives on directions for the College. The committee used two different online surveys, focus groups, and sustained dialogue to gain input for plan development. These important “strategic conversations” were the genesis of the plan.

Please take a moment to review the information shared in the following pages. The Pitt Community College Strategic Plan will shape and define our direction for the next five years. It is with a sense of pride and optimism that I look forward to the coming year and substantial progress on this dynamic plan.
