Assistant Program
The Economic and
Community Development Division
offers Nursing Assistant I, Nursing
Assistant I Refresher, Nursing
Assistant II and Home Companion Aide
classes. The Nursing Assistant I and
II classes are offered each
semester. The Nursing Assistant I
Refresher is offered in March, July
and November. The Home Companion
Aide class is offered once a
semester.

Beginning Summer Semester, 2006:
All Nursing Assistant I
and Nursing Assistant II
students will be required to
complete a CPR-HealthCare
Provider Course PRIOR
TO attending the Clinical
Portion of your Nursing
Assistant Class. Below are the

Nursing
Assistant I:
The Nursing Assistant I program at
PCC is a 144 hour course which
prepares graduates to provide
personal care and perform basic
nursing skills. It includes
classroom, lab and clinical
experiences. Students desiring to
enroll in this class
must meet
admission requirements.
Employment may be in home health,
long-term care or sometimes in the
hospital setting.
Nursing
Assistant I Refresher*:
The Nursing Assistant I
Refresher class at PCC is a 19 hour,
5 day refresher class the briefly
reviews the Nursing Assistant I
program. This class is available to
those students whose North Carolina
NA I certification has expired
within the last 4 years. A NC State
Certification Exam is given on the
5th day of class an must be passed
with an 80% grade or higher.
* Book must be
purchased for this class.
Nursing Assistant II: The Nursing Assistant II program at
PCC is a 168 hour course which
prepares graduates to perform more
advanced nursing procedures. It
includes classroom, lab and more
in-depth clinical experiences.
Again, students desiring to enroll
in this program
must meet admission requirements.
Employment is usually in the
hospital or home health setting.
Home
Companion Aide*:
The Home Companion Aide program
at PCC is a 75 hour course for
individuals needing to prepare
themselves to work with the elderly,
disabled or handicapped usually in
the home setting. This program
includes classroom and lab
experience.

This is not a
certification course.
