Sustainable Energy / Weatherization Program
Pitt Community College, in conjunction with the Region Q Workforce Development Board, is now providing short term training in weatherization and sustainable energy to students throughout Eastern North Carolina. Each weatherization course incorporates a national certification from the National Center for Construction Education and Research. Our Auditor class prepares students to take the Building Performance Institute "Building Analyst" exams for national certification as well. PCC is proud to be a NCCER Accredited Training and Education Facility and a BPI Test Center.

Weatherization Course Offerings
Weatherization Technician - Entry Level
Hours: 112
This entry level program for is for students wanting to enter the residential weatherization field. Through the NCCER Weatherization Training, students will learn basic building science, how to check for air leaks, complete heat loss tests to determine insulation quality, and other techniques used to insulate and seal a structure to improve efficiency and weather tightness and incorporates the national NCCER weatherization certification. This course also includes basic construction principles needed for success on any job site including basic safety, construction math, introduction to hand and power tools, blue print reading, and lead awareness.
Cost: $181.25 + $15 test fee

Weatherization Technician - Experienced
Hours: 40
This course is designed to train students in the basic principles of air sealing a home. This will include hands-on training in identifying and sealing common air leakage points. Students will learn basic building science as they learn how to seal various building envelope penetrations, properly mastic seal duct work and install dense pack insulation in exterior walls. Incorporates a national certification from the National Center for Construction Education and Research.. Cost: $126.25 + $15 test fee

This program is designed to teach an understanding of the "House as a System" perspective. Students learn to perform comprehensive, whole-home assessments as they learn to use state of the art diagnostic tools. They will learn to identify building problems at the root cause and then prescribe and prioritize solutions based on building science while maintaining the "do no harm" priority. Successful candidates will gain the knowledge necessary to provide homeowners an overview of energy consumption and options to save money by conserving energy. Includes opportunity to sit for BPI "Building Analyst" Certification Test. In addition to class times listed, students will be required to sign up for a 2-hour individual testing session. Cost: $126.25 + $350 BPI testing fee.

PV Solar Technician - Entry Level
Hours: 40
This course is designed to teach the fundamentals of solar energy and identify what the markets and applications for Photovoltaic Technology are. Students will learn proper system sizing principles and basic design of the electrical and mechanical PV Array. This will include hands on training working with a live PV System. Includes opportunity to sit fo NABCEP PV Entry Level Exam.
Cost: $126.25 + $75 NABCEP test fee
