Downloading/Installing Respondus

The Distance Learning Office is responsible for ensuring that this document is necessary and that it reflects actual practice.

Before you download and install the Respondus software, please read the and “License Information” section. After you have read that section, proceed to the “Downloading the Software” section follow the instructions given.

License Information

Our license with Respondus, Inc. does NOT permit instructors to obtain support directly from Respondus, Inc. If our staff is unable to solve a particular question or problem, we will contact Respondus, Inc. on your behalf.

Our license DOES permit you to install a copy of the Respondus software on a home computer. However, please note that you are not permitted to provide the Respondus software or the password information to anyone who is not affiliated with our institution. Such an action is a violation of our licensing agreement with Respondus and is also illegal.

Downloading the Software

To download and install Respondus correctly you should…

1. Print these directions.

2. Open Internet Explorer and log into CampusCrusier.

3. Under the Campus Tab, click the Offices link on the Campus submenu (green area).

4. Click Faculty Resource Forum.

5. Click Shared Files in the Members Area Box on the left-hand side of the screen.

6. Click on the Respondus Download link.

7. Click on the “Respondus35Campus.exe” link.

8. Click RUN on the File download window to install the program or SAVE to save a copy of the file to a folder on your computer.

If you saved the file to your computer, goto task #9. Otherwise, goto task #11.

9. Navigate to the folder on your computer where you just saved the file “Respondus35Campus.exe”.

10. Double Click on the file “Respondus3Campus.exe”.

Installing the Software

11. Click Run on the Security Warning window.

12. Click OK on the winzip Self-Extractor pop-up window

13. Click the Unzip button on the Self-Extractor pop-up window and click OK on the Unzip successful window.

14. Click NEXT or YES on the all of the install windows.

If you are a Math Instructor and you will need to write equations in Blackboard, goto task #15. Otherwise, goto task #18.

15. Click Yes on the Respondus Equations Editor Question window.

16. Click the OK button on the Respondus Equations Editor Set-up window.

17. Then click the Yes button to create the Respondus Equations Editor folder.

Goto task #19

18. Click NO on the Respondus Equations Editor install window.

19. Click Finish on the Set-up Complete window.

If you installed the Respondus Equations Editor you should unselect the View Read Me option and then click OK on the Installation Complete window.

20. After the install window is closed, double click on the Respondus icon on your desktop.

21. Enter the installation password.

The installation password must be entered EXACTLY as follows:

22. Click the License button on the password window.

23. Click close on the Respondus Newletter window.

24. Select Blackboard 6.3- 7.x personality from the dropdown box and click the OK button.

Respondus download and installation is complete.

Getting Help

Context-sensitive help is available throughout the Respondus program by pressing the F1 key. It is also available by selecting "Help" from the pull-down menu on the toolbar. A copy of the Respondus User Guide (in Word/WordPad format) can be downloaded from http://www.respondus.com/products/userguide.shtml .

If you have questions or problems using the Respondus software, you should first consult the online help or Respondus User Guide. If you are still unable to resolve your problem, direct your questions to the following person(s) here at Pitt Community College:
