Important Note – you are officially in the class only after you have paid your fees and have followed the instructions below.

Your First Steps: What you should do now!

Step #1
Emailing your Instructor

A. Make sure you have paid your tuition and fees.
B. IMMEDIATELY go to CampusCruiser (http://prod.campuscruiser.com) and send an *e-mail to your instructor for EACH online class. The email to the instructor must include your full name, your area code and phone number and your class & section number.

*Need help locating your instructor's email address? (see below)

  • To locate your instructor’s email address, refer to the Internet Course Schedule. If you do NOT see your class listed on the Internet Course Schedule review the complete Fall 2005 Course Schedule .
  • You can also find your instructor's email address in CampusCruiser by logging in, clicking on the Campus Life tab, clicking the Directory link, entering the last name of the instructor in the Find Members field and click the Search button.
  • For help with CampusCruiser see: (www.pittcc.edu/tutorials/students/)

Remember: This first e-mail is required of every Internet student for every online class and you are not officially enrolled until you have sent this e-mail.

Step #2
Orientation

First time PCC internet students only!

A. New internet students must complete either the online student orientation or attend an onsite session. Click on the links below to view more information about the orientations.

If you are a first time Internet student within driving distance of PCC you are STRONGLY encouraged to attend one of the face-to-face sessions.

Step #3
Buying Text Books

A. Buy required textbooks and class materials. (Click here for more information) or contact our bookstore at (252) 493-7252 or by e-mail: jharris@email.pittcc.edu.

Step #4

Blackboard User Name:
Your Blackboard user name will consist of your first name, an underscore (_) and your last name. Always be sure to use lowercase letters when typing your user name into Blackboard. For example: John Doe's user name would be john_doe.

Blackboard Password:
Your Blackboard password will be your birth date as a 6 digit number. For example: John Doe was born March 12, 1983. His password would be 031283. Notice that you're only using the last 2 digits of the year you were born, not all four.

Important Software Requirements:

Word Processing Software -
DO NOT use the software MS Works to do your assignments. The majority of our instructors are unable to open documents in this format. Microsoft Word, often included with most Windows computers, is highly recommended. WordPad, which also comes installed on many Windows computers, can also be used. For further information, contact your instructor.

Internet Browsers -
We recommend that you DO NOT use Internet Service Providers such as AOL, Prodigy, or CompuServe with online courses at PCC. We recommend that you use Internet Explorer 5.0 (or higher) with PCC online courses. For help understanding these issues, you may contact the Distance Learning office at (252) 493-7256 or krouse@email.pittcc.edu.
