Bulldogs Snatch Victory from Jaws of Defeat
Down 18 at the Half, PCC Rallies All the Way Back to Beat LCC
(01/09/2009)
WINTERVILLE—Down 18 at halftime, Pitt Community College mounted a furious comeback to beat Lenoir Community College this week, 89-85.
Bulldogs Coach Chad Reynolds said following Wednesday’s come-from-behind victory that his club is “very fortunate” to be 6-1 on the season, 3-1 in the Region X Conference.
Trailing 46-28 after a first half marked by offensive miscues and a lack of intensity on defense, PCC was, indeed, fortunate to emerge with a win. Reynolds credited his team’s defensive tenacity in the final 20 minutes as keying the remarkable comeback.
“Great defensive pressure in the second half allowed us to claw back in the game,” he said. “I thought our defensive intensity was great in the second half.”

WENTWORTH—Led by Adonte McCarter’s 19 points, five Pitt Community College basketball players scored in double figures to give the Bulldogs a 5-1 mark on the season with a 90-81 victory over Rockingham Community College.
PCC played well defensively and shot well early on to go into halftime up 50-41. The Bulldogs extended that lead in the second half only to allow the Eagles creep back into the contest.
“As we move ahead, we are going to have to play more consistent,” PCC Coach Chad Reynolds said. “We are starting to see teams make adjustments to our personnel, and that is forcing us to be more patient about what it is that we want on offense.”
Dawgs Lose First Game of Season, 98-93

HENDERSON—Having squandered a seven-point lead over the final 10 minutes of play, Pitt Community College dropped its first game of the season Saturday, falling to Vance-Granville Community College, 98-93.
Playing for the first time in six days, the Bulldogs came out flat against the Vanguards (8-2 overall) and shot poorly from the field. VGCC, meanwhile, crashed the boards and took advantage of easy baskets in the paint.
Though Pitt cut the lead to four several times in the first 20 minutes of action and had chances to make it even closer, Raymond Dunn tallied 22 first-half point to give the Vanguards a 57-49 lead at intermission.
The second half saw the Dawgs turn up the defensive intensity and eventually take the lead. Guards Adonte McCarter and Eugene Jenkins spearheaded the rally with help inside from Johnny Godette.
McGhee '3' Helps PCC Top Cougars in OT
(12/08/2008)
SANFORD—Pitt Community College got a big time ‘3’ from guard Steffen McGhee in overtime and made defensive stops when they were needed most to stay perfect on the season with a 108-102 overtime victory over Central Carolina Community College.
Sunday’s contest between the Bulldogs and Cougars was close throughout, and the teams were tied at 89-89 at the end of regulation.
Pitt, which led 47-44 at halftime, rebounded well but had too many defensive lapses and missed free throws to pull away from Central Carolina.
“Our defense is not where I want it to be, but we were able to get stops in overtime when we had to,” said PCC coach Chad Reynolds. “Our free-throw shooting could have ended it early. We are going to have to get better at the line.”
