Taylor Top PCC Finisher in Coker Tourney

HARTSVILLE, S.C.—Three of four Pitt Community College golfers improved their scores in round two of the Coker College Intercollegiate on Tuesday, but the Bulldogs couldn’t keep pace with the field, finishing 12th out of 13 teams competing in the two-day event.
A day after shooting 73 in the tournament’s opening round one, PCC golfer Ryan Perkins found the going a lot tougher on day two. The freshman shot 85 (+13) on Tuesday to finish in a two-way tie for 42nd.
Cameron Taylor, a sophomore out of Ayden-Grifton High School, led the Bulldogs at 13-over after shooting 79-78 to finish in a two-way tie for 40th. Derek Joyner was +17 (78-83 = 161) for Pitt, and Josh Barefoot rounded out the scoring for the Bulldogs at +27 (88-83 = 171).
Coker College finished atop the leaderboard at +5 with Fayetteville State University five shots back in second place.
With a combined score of 647 (+71), PCC finished two shots ahead of USC-Lancaster Community College at the par-72, 6,615-yard Hartsville Country Club.
Perkins Leads PCC Golfers at S.C. Tourney

HARTSVILLE, S.C.—Pitt Community College golfer Ryan Perkins shot a 73 Monday in round one of the Coker College Intercollegiate to finish six shots back of first-place Christopher Marsh from the host school.
Perkins, a freshman from Concord, completed the front nine of the par-72, 6,615-yard Hartsville Country Club at even par. He followed that with a 37 on the back side to finish the day one in a four-way tie for 11th-place.
Sophomore Derek Joyner recorded a round of 78 (39-39), Cameron Taylor a 79 (38-41), and Josh Barefoot an 88 (44-44) to round out the scoring for the Bulldogs.
As a team, PCC is in 12th place out of the 13 squads competing in the two-day event, one shot behind Edward Waters College and two shots back of Erskine College and Coker College’s B Team.
Perkins Finishes 15th to Pace Bulldogs

ROCKY MOUNT--Pitt Community College freshman Ryan Perkins tied for 15th overall while the Bulldogs finished eighth out 11 teams taking part in the Gardner's BBQ Dogfight at Ford's Colony Country Club in Rocky Mount Sept. 29-30.
Perkins, a graduate of Northwest Cabarrus High School, shot 73 on the event's first day and followed that with a 69 on the 7,108-yard, par-72 course.
Derek Joyner (74-78 = +8), Josh Barefoot (79-79 = +14) and Cameron Taylor (77-82 = +15) rounded out the scoring for Pitt.
Also of note, former PCC golfer Ryan Campbell helped Mt. Olive College top tourney host Barton College in a sudden-death playoff.
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill golfer Patrick Barrett took tourney medalist honors with a score of 14-under. Barrett shot a course-record 66 on day one of the event and bettered that finish on day two with a round of 64.
Perkins's 69 on day two of the tournament tied the previous course record.
