Bulldogs 3-3 Overall after Pioneer Classic
SPARTANBURG, S.C.—While many took advantage of the rest and relaxation opportunities associated with Labor Day Weekend, the Pitt Community College volleyball team was hard at work.
The Bulldogs traveled to South Carolina Friday to participate in the Pioneer Classic at Spartanburg Methodist College Saturday and Sunday and finished a respectable third out of five teams after going 2-3.
Pitt started tournament play with a 3-0 victory (25-8, 25-6 and 25-14) over Lackawanna College (PA) Saturday before dropping two straight to NJCAA Division I powerhouses Wallace State and Brevard Community College.
After rallying to top the tourney host, 25-16, 26-24 and 25-18, on Sunday, PCC lost to Brevard, 3-0 (25-19, 25-15 and 25 -17), in the playoff round to go 3-3 overall, 1-0 Region X Conference.
For the weekend, Megan Mansfield led the Bulldogs with 40 kills. Taylor Norris had 28 kills, Catherine Barber 27 and Brandi Tanner 24. Angele Landry led Pitt with 49 assists while teammate Leah Mackley had 48.
Stephanie Zampini led Pitt defensively with 58 digs for the tourney.
