PCC Tops RCC, Catawba Valley to go 16-3
With victories over Rockingham Community College and Catawba Valley this past weekend, PCC Basketball has now won five straight games and eight of its last nine.
The Bulldogs are 16-3 overall this season, 9-1 in the Region X Conference, heading into tonight’s game in Lexington against Davidson Community College.
Against Rockingham Friday, PCC forward Chris McLawhorn finished with 26 points and 13 rebounds, and center Mike Tyson notched 20 points and 14 boards to provide a one-two punch in the paint for Pitt as the Bulldogs coasted to a 92-74 victory.
Down 14 in the first half, RCC (4-12 overall, 0-5 Region X) closed out the first 20 minutes of play on a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to 39-32 at the break. But PCC answered at the start of the second half with a 15-2 run to go on top, 54-34, with 16:06 remaining.
Mike Smith, who finished with 26 points for the Eagles, knocked down a pair of 3-pointers to help RCC close to within 12 at 62-50 with 9:41 to go. But the Bulldogs sealed the game by connecting on 17 of 21 shots from the free-throw line in the second half.
Guard Dee Robinson finished with 19 points, seven assists and five rebounds for Pitt.
Saturday’s contest was significantly closer for PCC, but the Bulldogs outscored Catawba Valley Community College in the second half, 52-42, to take a 92-87 win.
Jaquan Blount paced the Bulldogs offensively with 25 points to go along with eight rebounds and four assists. Robinson tallied 18 points, five boards and six assists for Pitt, which trailed CVCC at halftime, 45-40.
Kelly Marsh tacked on 16 points, six rebounds and three assists for PCC, while Tyson finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.
Following tonight’s game at Davidson, the Bulldogs will return to the Coburn Center Saturday to face Louisburg College at 3 p.m. PCC will host Patrick Henry Community College Sunday at 3 p.m.
