Guidelines
1. The student presents documentation verifying his or her disability to the Disability Services Coordinator in Vernon White building Room #20.2. Type of Documentation to be submitted:
- Students with Learning Disabilities will need to submit a complete psychological evaluation.
- Mobility-impaired students will need to submit a medical report about their physical disability.
- Deaf and Hard of Hearing students will need to submit an audiologist report.
- Visually impaired students will need to submit an ophthalmologist report.
3. The Disability Coordinator will coordinate efforts with the Testing Coordinator to set up a date, time, and place for the student to take the placement test with special testing accommodations. Students who need accommodations such as assistance in filling in ovals, a reader, a scribe, or a private area to read tests aloud may take their tests in Disability Services.
4. After taking the placement test, the secretary will forward a copy of the test results to the student by mail within 72 hours.
5. The student will call the assigned advisor and make an appointment for registration. The student will need to take a copy of the placement test results with them to their meeting with an advisor. After reviewing the scores, the student and an advisor can decide upon which classes will be taken for the semester.
6. The student will make an appointment with the Disability Services Coordinator to decide upon the academic accommodations to be included in the letters of accommodation.
7. Drafts of accommodation letters are then finalized and prepared for the student to pick up from the Disability Services Office. The letters are to be delivered by the student to each of his/her instructors on the first day of class.
8. The student must sign a form stating that he or she received copies of the accommodation letters.
