Early Alert:
Retention and Student Success Services

Pitt Community College is committed to providing assistance to students to help them achieve their educational goals. The Early Alert Program is designed to identify students who are having academic difficulty at any point during the semester. Once identified, the appropriate Resource Support Staff can provide timely feedback and initiate measures to increase the likelihood of the student's success. Strong efforts are made to provide intervention within the first six to eight weeks of the semester.

The primary goal of the Early Alert Program is to assist faculty and staff in improving the motivation and performance of students who are underachieving. During this critical period, our faculty have a major role in the implementation and success of this program. When faculty interact and make contact with students, they're the first to see problems manifest themselves though low test and quiz scores, failure to turn in assignments, poor class attendance and participation. Therefore, it is very important that faculty, counselors, staff, and administrators work together as a team in using the Early Alert Program. The use of the program can be extremely beneficial to both the students in their future educational endeavors, as well as increasing retention and graduation rates at the college.

The Early Alert Referral Form can be used at any time when a faculty member notices a problem with a student who:
