Baugh, Gurkin Receive PCECA Scholarships

WINTERVILLE—Pitt Community College announced this week that students Trevor Baugh and Elliot Gurkin have been awarded scholarships by the Pitt County Electrical Contractors Association (PCECA).
Baugh, a Winterville resident, and Gurkin, who is from Jamesville, will each receive $500 from PCECA. The awards come through the association’s John Payne Electrical Scholarship Fund, which was established to honor the former Pitt County electrical inspector and encourage individuals to pursue careers in the electrical trade.
Baugh and Gurkin are finishing up their first year at PCC and will begin their second and final year of the Electrical/Electronics program in August. The scholarship money they received this month will help pay for their tuition and books.
PCECA President Jimmy Benson presented Baugh and Gurkin with their scholarships on July 11, during the association’s monthly meeting. Fellow PCECA officers Mike Benson (Vice President), Tommy Joyner (Program Chairman), and Osborne Clark (Treasurer) were also on hand for the presentation along with Electrical/Electronics Instructor Joe Strickland and Electrical/Electronics Curriculum Coordinator Eddie Sherrod.
