Pharr Named Asst. VP of Academic Affairs
WINTERVILLE—Maria Pharr has been named Pitt Community College’s new Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs. She replaces Dr. Dan Mayo, who is now the college’s Dean of Public Service and Fine Arts Division.
Pharr comes to PCC from Craven Community College, where she served as a Dean of Liberal Arts and University Transfer, Director of Planning and Assessment, and Chair of Science, Math, Health/PE. She also taught biology at Lenoir Community College and Craven.
“PCC has consistently been recognized as a leader in the North Carolina Community College System for its progressive programming and strong leadership,” Pharr said. “I am excited to be able to contribute my skills, knowledge and passion toward continued growth and innovation of its services and programs. It is a great institution, and I am proud to be a part of it.”
Prior to her educational career, Pharr was a field chemist for the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
Pharr, who lives in Craven County, earned a master’s degree in Science Education from East Carolina University and a bachelor’s degree in Biology from St. Andrews Presbyterian College. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in Higher Education Administration from ECU.
