Three Nursing Students Receive Scholarships
GREENVILLE—Pitt Community College nursing students Jennifer Curlee, Rebecca Haislip and Erin Markowski received the Pitt Golden K Kiwanis/Clifton E. Boyd Nursing Scholarship May 8, during a ceremony at Greenville Golf and Country Club.
Curlee, who lives in Greenville, just completed the first year of the nursing program and will receive $750 through her award to help offset the cost of her educational expenses. Already a 2007 graduate of East Carolina University’s rehabilitation studies program, she served as a marshal during the PCC nursing program’s annual pinning ceremony earlier this month.
Like Curlee, Markowski will also begin the second year of her nursing studies this fall. A New Jersey native, she organized a relief effort for the people of her home state who were affected by Hurricane Sandy in October. She will receive $500 through her award.
Haislip, a 2012 graduate of J.H. Rose High School, served as a PCC Student Ambassador during the 2012-13 academic year. She is set to join the nursing program when fall classes begin in August and will receive $750 through her scholarship.
Administered by the Greater Greenville Foundation, the Pitt Golden K Kiwanis/Clifton E. Boyd Nursing Scholarship is named for Col. Clifton Boyd, a former Kiwanis Club and PCC Foundation Board member. The scholarship is presented annually to outstanding PCC students seeking nursing degrees.
