Foundation's Scholarship Reception Gives Students Chance to Meet and Thank Donors
WINTERVILLE—The Pitt Community College Foundation held a reception Oct. 15 to recognize student scholarship recipients and thank the individuals and organizations responsible for establishing and supporting the awards.
Each year, the PCC Foundation provides scholarships to students with financial need and to others in recognition of outstanding academic achievement. The organization also provides a limited number of grants-in-aid as well as special funding for educational supplies.
During the 2012-13 academic year, the PCC Foundation provided students with nearly $279,000 in scholarships and mini-grants.
“Scholarships are the important resources that support student access and achievement in our college,” said Susan Nobles, PCC Vice President of Institutional Advancement and executive director of the PCC Foundation. “Aside from the federal financial aid program, scholarships are the extra measure of support for our students’ success.”
In addition to scholarships and endowments established and supported by donors, much of the PCC Foundation’s funding is raised through a variety of activities, including the Annual Community Fund Drive, the PCC Foundation Fall Golf Classic, the Bulldog 5K Run and next month’s Down East Holiday Show at the Greenville Convention Center.
“The community’s support for these activities has allowed us to increase our scholarship opportunities each year,” Nobles said.
