TASC Serving Record Numbers This Fall

WINTERVILLE—The Pitt Community College Tutorial and Academic Success Center (TASC) is on a record pace this semester in terms of student visits and the number of students served.

Last week, PCC Tutorial Services Director Nicholas Vick said 447 students had received tutorial services since Aug. 20 for a combined 1,750 student visits. He said the college’s Academic Skills Lab had recorded another 1,071 student visits, placing the total number of students served by TASC at 571.

“All of these numbers are records for the Tutorial and Academic Success Center at this point in the semester,” Vick said.

This year’s tutorial staff consists of 42 students who provide academic support to their peers in a variety of subjects. As part of their preparations for the fall semester, they completed a three-hour training session that covered such topics as active listening and critical thinking.

Vick said that while tutors are paid by the college for their work, the services they provide are available to all students at no cost. He encouraged students in need of academic assistance to visit TASC in T-19 on campus.
