PCC, NCWorks to Share Job Search Tips

WINTERVILLE—The Pitt Community College Continuing Education Division is partnering with NCWorks this month to offer a course that will help individuals looking for work or additional employment discover “The Secrets of Landing a Job.”

The 20-hour course will be offered at the Employment Security Commission in Greenville twice this month: Oct. 6-15 and Oct. 20-29. The class will meet Monday through Thursday, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. each day in the NCWorks Conference Room.

PCC Industrial Instructor/Coordinator Jerry Jones says “The Secrets of Landing a Job” will offer attendees insight on the ‘hidden job market’ and tips for preparing a dynamic resume, acing job interviews and making a great first impression.

“Employment opportunities are expected to increase in 2014, but the job market is very competitive,” Jones said. “Although technical skills are a critical component in the hiring process, people also need to learn how to stand out in today's competitive market, present themselves well and interview effectively.”

PCC’s Holly Sweat, a personal and career counselor, will teach the course. Jones said she has helped “thousands of students and professionals market themselves successfully in a tight job market.”

The workshop is free for those who are unemployed or underemployed.
