PCC HR Director Earns New Certification

A Kinston native, Mike Shreves has more than 28 years of manufacturing and human resources experience.WINTERVILLE—Pitt Community College administrators announced this month that Human Resources Director Mike Shreves has earned certification from the International Public Management Association for Human Resources (IPMA-HR).

Shreves, who joined PCC in November 2012, successfully completed the IPMA-HR certification exam in November. The 80-question exam covers 20 human resources competencies, including understanding an organization’s mission, vision and values, ability to apply organizational development principles, and the ability to create and support a positive environment that supports calculated risk-taking.

Certification is a unique designation for HR professionals that demonstrates competencies in public sector human resources and personal commitment to the profession.

"Earning IPMA-Certified Professional designation means a great deal to me both personally and professionally,” Shreves said. “I believe there is much to learn from both private and public sector service, and this certification helps bridge the two perfectly, while serving to add value to the human resources role at the college."

As PCC’s human resources director, Shreves provides leadership to a department that oversees recruitment and employment, employee benefits, policy and procedures, and employee relations, training and development.

IPMA-HR touts itself as the world’s leading public sector human resource organization. Since 1906, the company has represented the interests of human resource professionals at all levels while promoting excellence in HR management.
