Roberts Pre-Hire Program Offered This Month

Greenville's Michael Stevenson trains at PCC Thursday as part of an accelerated welding course he is taking for his new job at Roberts Company. The 24-year-old was one of seven individuals hired by the Winterville business after it teamed with Pitt on a pre-hire training program in December.

WINTERVILLE—Pitt Community College will once again partner with Winterville’s Roberts Company on a pre-hire training program this month.

The training, which consists of 24 hours of free “Introduction to Welding” instruction, “OSHA 10” training, and resume and interview preparation, will be offered in the Masonry/Welding Building (Room 101) on PCC’s main campus. The class runs Jan. 14-18.

To qualify for the training, individuals must have a Career Readiness Certificate (CRC) with a “5” in Applied Math (AM) and Locating Information (LI).

Those who successfully complete the pre-hire program will receive job interviews with Roberts Company, which is a fully-integrated engineering, fabrication, construction and plant services business designed to work specifically with heavy and light industrial clients. Those hired as welders will enter a 40-hour welding class at PCC as Roberts Company employees.

A pre-hire training effort that took place in December resulted in seven individuals being hired and participating in the accelerated welding course at Pitt last week. In one month’s time, they went from being unemployed, to gaining quality instruction in welding, to landing job interviews and being hired as Roberts Company employees.

To register for this week’s training, contact Camesha McMillian at (252) 493-7266 or stop by her office (Room 149) in the PCC Greenville Center on Memorial Drive.

Applicants must provide copies of their CRC scores. Those who do not have the required scores are advised to visit the CRC Lab (Room 403) in the Greenville Center to get started.
