PCC Foundation Raising Funds by Selling Chances to Win 2016 Mercedes-Benz Car

WINTERVILLE—The Pitt Community College Foundation is raising funds for student scholarships and various educational activities by selling chances to win a brand new Mercedes-Benz.

The vehicle, a C-Class C300 4Matic Sedan from Hendrick Mercedes-Benz-Durham, was unveiled to the public earlier this year, during a fundraising event on campus. It will be awarded to one lucky ticketholder this fall, during the PCC Foundation’s Down East Holiday Show fundraiser at the Greenville Convention Center.

“We’ve sold many tickets over the past three months but still need to sell more before we’ll be ready to draw a winner,” said PCC Alumni and Development Services Director Ashley Smith. “We wanted to give as many people as possible an opportunity to purchase tickets, so we decided to have the drawing during the Holiday Show, which will offer more than 12,000 people a chance to see the beautiful Mercedes-Benz we’re giving away in person.”

Smith said the plan is to draw the winning ticket in the afternoon of the Holiday Show’s final day, Nov. 8. She added that the eventual winner will receive a 2016 Mercedes-Benz, not the 2015 model displayed when the contest kicked off in March.

“We wanted to make this contest even more exciting,” Smith said of the change.
According to PCC Foundation Executive Director Susan Nobles, a maximum of 2,000 tickets will be sold by PCC Foundation Board members at $100 each as part of the drawing. She said proceeds from the contest will be used to fund scholarships and various educational activities at PCC.

“We’ve had some people say that this particular fundraiser is like taking a chance to give someone else a chance,” Nobles said. “When someone takes a chance at winning this car, they’re giving someone a chance at a college education.”
