IST's Tony Gallardo Earns New Certifications

WINTERVILLE—Pitt Community College instructor Tony Gallardo recently completed a pair of electrical safety courses through e-Hazard’s award-winning Train the Trainer Program.

Gallardo, who is the college’s Industrial Systems Technology curriculum coordinator, took e-Hazard’s “Low Voltage Qualified NFPA 70E” and “High Voltage Qualified” courses June 1-4 in Louisville, Ky., and received certification in both.

The eight-hour low voltage safety training covered safe electrical workplace practices in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70E 2015 standards.

The high voltage (above 600 volts) course included a hands-on practicum using high voltage tools, voltage detectors, grounds and personal protective equipment. It, too, emphasized safe work practices in accordance with OSHA, NFPA and National Electrical Safety Code standards.

Gallardo said the training he received has been highly requested by local industry. With the certifications he earned through e-Hazard, he says he can now provide arc flash training to industries and electrical power supply companies, like Greenville Utilities.

Founded in 2004, e-Hazard is a leader in electrical safety training, arc flash studies and electrical safety audits.
