Threat of Rain Postpones PCC Forklift Rodeo

WINTERVILLE—Wet weather in the forecast means teams representing eight local industries will have to wait another week to compete for top honors in Pitt Community College's 3rd Annual Forklift Rodeo.

Due to the potential for heavy rain this week, this year’s forklift safety competition, originally scheduled for Friday, will now take place Oct. 9 in the Greenville Mall parking lot.

The competition is still scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. with a forklift theory test and pre-use safety inspection. The driving competition is set to start at approximately 2 p.m. and will feature three courses that challenge the competitors’ operating skills and safety practices.

PCC Director of Business and Industry Mary Paramore says the competition, which was first held in 2013, is a chance for local industries to shine a spotlight on their employees.

Ann’s House of Nuts in Martin County won the inaugural competition, while Greenville’s Metallix Refining, Inc., claimed first-place in last year’s event.
