2nd Annual Accelerating the Future Program to Raise Funds for Student Scholarships

WINTERVILLE—After a successful inaugural event in 2015, the Pitt Community College Foundation will hold a second Accelerate the Future fundraiser this spring.

This year’s event will take place on campus March 18 in the Craig M. Goess Construction and Industrial Technology Building. Presented by BarbourHendrick, it will take place from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

PCC Event Specialist Erin Greenleaf says Accelerating the Future will feature casual attire, a buffet dinner, disc jockey and dancing. The event will feature eight different PCC programs: Fire & Rescue, Horticulture, Building Construction, Welding, Automotive Systems, Architectural Technology, Graphic Design and Fine Arts.

“We are once again having our spring scholarship event right here on campus,” Greenleaf said. “We had so much success in bringing our PCC friends right into the classroom that we decided to do it again but expand the focus to cover more programs.”

Accelerating the Future will also feature a silent auction. Greenleaf says donated items are still coming in, but some already on hand include jewelry, autographed sports memorabilia, passes to various entertainment venues, and a variety handcrafted items.

Like last year, there will be a selection of classic cars on display throughout the event, including the following:

· 1955 Ford Thunderbird Hardtop/Convertible owned by Brinkley Moore
· 1964 Pontiac GTO Coupe owned by Donnie Taylor
· 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 427/435 Convertible owned by John Carroll
· 2003 Nissan 350ZX Coupe owned by John Dunn.
· 2005 Chevrolet SSR Hardtop Convertible owned by Buddy Holt.

“It will be a fun and casual evening of raising money and awareness for Pitt Community College in a very unique setting,” Greenleaf said, adding that three levels of event sponsorship—ranging from $1,250 to $3,500—are still available.

Tickets to next month’s fundraiser are $75 each and can be purchased by calling (252) 493-7287.

The PCC Foundation will use proceeds from Accelerating the Future to fund student scholarships and educational activities at the college.
