College's CFO Serving as ACCBO President

Ricky BrownWINTERVILLE—Pitt Community College Chief Financial Officer Ricky Brown was recently selected to serve a one-year term as president of the N.C. Association of Community College Business Office Professionals (ACCBO).

Brown, who has worked at PCC for the past 24 years, was selected president in October and started his term in January. He is responsible for planning and organizing professional development opportunities for North Carolina’s community colleges, including two annual conferences, supervision of ACCBO scholarship expenditures and awards, and oversight of the ACCBO website.

“ACCBO provides a primary source of training for the business professionals at the 58 community colleges,” Brown said. “Training is provided from a combination of state agencies, the N.C. Community College System Office, and other community college business officials.”

The Greenville native, whose term expires in December, said one of the key benefits of ACCBO is building relationships with other business officials from across the state, which can provide insight into how other colleges address specific problems or issues.

At PCC, Brown provides oversight of the college’s fiscal operations and prepares the annual budget and financial statements for the college and PCC Foundation. He supervises Pitt’s print shop and bookstore, as well as its accounting, payroll and purchasing departments.

A two-time graduate of East Carolina University with a bachelor’s and master’s in Business Administration, Brown started work at PCC in 1992 as the college’s budget officer. He took over as Director of Budget and Accounting in 1997, Business Manager in 2004 and CFO in 2012.
