GUC’s Tony Cannon to Address Class of 2016

Tony CannonWINTERVILLE—Tony Cannon, general manager/chief executive officer of Greenville Utilities Commission, will address Pitt Community College’s class of 2016 during spring commencement May 10.

The graduation ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. in Minges Coliseum on the East Carolina University campus. Out of the 1,080 members of this year’s graduating class—who earned a total of 1,866 degrees, diplomas and/or certificates—648 are expected to participate in commencement.

Cannon, a South Carolina native, was appointed to his current position with GUC in 2012, after serving as the company’s assistant general manager for six years. He has 31 years of experience in public utilities, joining Greenville Utilities from Greer Commission of Public Works in his home state.

Cannon earned an associate degree in business from Tri-County Technical College and is a two-time graduate of Southern Wesleyan University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a master’s in Organizational Management. His work experience includes management of electric, water, sewer and natural gas operations.

Cannon serves on the Board of Directors for the American Public Power Association. He also is the organization’s liaison to the American Public Gas Association and serves on the Finance and Audit Review Committee.

Cannon’s extensive involvement with professional and civic organizations also includes service as chair of the Pitt County Committee of 100. He is the past chair of the Carolinas Public Gas Association and Pitt-Greenville Chamber of Commerce.

Since 1905, Greenville Utilities has been an integral part of Greenville and Pitt County. The company provides electric, water, sewer and natural gas services to the City of Greenville and 75 percent of Pitt County.
